A Special Order

Here's another order I completed last week. I made another growth chart. My client wanted an apple tree, birds and a house so this is what I came up with. I really enjoy working on special requests as I get new ideas form them. I used linen and cotton fabrics, hand applique and embroidery to make this lovely heirloom.

For the same client I also made the three Christmas stockings below.

Finally she also requested a cushion slip with the Dome of Florence!

Sweet Pouch

I made this sweet little pouch today. I was very easy and fun to combine the colours. I was very pleased to do something new as I haven't had much time for new creating lately.

Japanese style embroidered tote

I have been so slack at posting lately I really need to catch up! I made this bag for my friend's aunt. it was an Easter gift! I used some beautiful hand dyed Indian fabric I bought in London. Then I appliqued different textured linens here and there. I then embroidered them with a simple running stitch totally inspired by the Zakka style. I finished off the bag with a hand made flower broach which can be removed.

Quilt Progress

I have been on holidays for a couple of weeks so have spent some time trying to piece my quilt together. It has been quite difficult as I didn't plan this quilt and have just been making random blocks. My inspiration came from a whole heap of places including quilt books- especially Japanese ones, online tutorials- I made a few Farmers wife blocks, BOM's that I had previously purchased but hadn't made up, images on Flickr- a great source of inspiration and other peoples quilts. I still have a few things to add like leaves to the Hexi flowers.

I still have a lot to do as this is going to be a very large that will cover a Queen size bed. I had some new fabric arrive the other day and am looking forward to including some in the quilt. I have used so many different fabrics including a lot my my little scraps. The hardest part is going to be quilting it. I am not sure how I will do that yet but know that I want to do some in perle coloured thread so some of the features stand out.

Springtime Bunting

Springtime is near so I wanted to create something pretty and fun to hang on the wall. I've been wanting to make some bunting for sometime now and finally took the plunge after the beautiful bunting Sas and mum made at Christmas. Wish I had been in Sydney with them to make it too! We love our combined projects!!!

I used a lot of linen with different fabrics to create this. I embroidered appliqued and embellished to my hearts content!!

I hope to find time to develop more bunting ideas!

Further Quilt Progress

My quilt is a very random sampler with ideas from a huge range of places. These two types of blocks came from inspiration in Flickr. The circles come from Clothwork and heart idea from Q is for Quilter. The circles are cut freehand and don't line up perfectly but that's how I wanted them. I made a total of six blocks and have sewed them together in a row. They are almost as wide as a queen size quilt. The heart block is based on 1" squares. I really enjoyed making this one and was happy that most of the tiny squares lined up perfectly. I still consider myself a novice quilter and need more practice lining things up. This sampler quilt is a good way for me to practice a range of techniques and also to get help from my quilting teacher when I need it.

Not more bunnies!

Well I thought bunny making was done but here I am making more! These are for the teachers at Lulu's school. I couldn't resist making a few more! They are being given with a Lindt chocolate bunny friend.

I used vintage fabrics on all of them, I just love the soft faded colours. I also put some beautiful French lavender in them. Lulu's favourite is the blue and purple one, I think mine is the pale pink with linen arms and ears. Hope the teachers like them!

Cot quilt patchwork with flower applique

I finally finished the quilt to go with the growth chart! I've been busy so things progressed a little slower than I had hoped. The quilt is made with a mix of cotton and linen fabrics. The flowers are hand appliqued and the quilt is hand quilted with embroidery floss.

I also made this sweet nappy/cream/toy basket for the same customer. It's made with antique hemp linen and is embellished with hand embroidery.
